The many changes undergoing in natural ecosystems force us to rethink our human condition. At the same time, digital technologies are reshaping our socio-political environments. Making Digital China is a discussion panel about the China's urban and technological transformation, from the diversity of practices observed locally to its relevance to larger global context.

Clément Renaud from the Swiss Institute of Technology will present its new book REALTIME: Making Digital China, a collection of original accounts, analyses and artworks by researchers and practitioners from various fields of design, geography, architecture, anthropology, economics, and art. The architect and urbanist Jason Hilgefort will introduce his work at the Institute for Autonomous Urbanism on Taobao villages and the spatial integration of technology. The conversation will be moderated by Hong Kong artist Kwan Q Li.

Clément Renaud is a creative technologist, scientist and artist exploring new digital spaces and representations in China and worldwide. He is also a research collaborator at the Institute for Area and Global Studies at EPFL (Lausanne, Switzerland), and a research associate at the Institute of Complex Systems at ENS de Lyon (France).

Jason Hilgefort is an urbanist/architect and founder of Land+Civilization Compositions, Aformal Academy, and The Institute for Autonomous Urbanism; he is a Lecturer in Urban Design at Hong Kong University and is currently executing his PhD at RMIT.

Interdisciplinary artist Kwan Q Li holds a Fine Art degree from the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University and a Global Business Studies degree from the CUHK. Coalesced with performance and writing, her research-based practice explores post-colonial intricacies and ideological alternatives within the neoliberal context. Queenie's latest collaborative project on data urbanism will be featured at the Hong Kong's Pavilion, La Biennale Architettura di Venezia 2020.
