Special Arrangements

In response to the latest regulations made under the Prevention and Control of Disease Ordinance by the Government, Tai Kwun is open with limited services and access. All exhibitions, guided tours, performances, events and workshops will gradually resume from 25 February 2021. Retail and restaurants will be opened individually. Visitors cannot gather in groups of more than four.

Located in the heart of Central, Hong Kong Island, Tai Kwun, neighbouring with other important heritage sites in Central and Sheung Wan, is conveniently connected to Hollywood Road, Lan Kwai Fong and Soho. With a bustling community surrounded by galleries, antique shops, restaurants and bars, Tai Kwun’s neighbourhood breathes the essence of a vibrant cultural life.

Tai Kwun is easily accessible via public entrance gates. Visitors can also enter via a footbridge at the intersection of Hollywood Road and Old Bailey Street, which connects the compound with the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator.

Latest Pandemic Prevention Measures at Tai Kwun

The frequency of cleansing is being stepped up for high contact surfaces throughout the day.

Provision of Hand Sanitisers

Hand sanitiser stations are available throughout Tai Kwun. Visitors are encouraged to sanitise their hands frequently. Disinfectant carpets will also be placed throughout the site.

Tai Kwun will continue to monitor the situation closely and review arrangements in a timely manner.

  • Central Station Exit D1 – Wheelock House
    Walk towards Sheung Wan along Queen’s Road Central and turn left at the junction with Queen Victoria Street, to reach Tai Kwun via escalator in 100QRC and the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator.

  • Hong Kong Station Exit E – One International Finance Centre (One IFC)
    Walk through the Central Elevated Walkway (footbridge) to the former Central Market, and reach Tai Kwun directly via the Central to Mid-Levels Escalator and Walkway System

  • Citybus routes 12, 12M & 40M

  • New World First Bus routes 13 & 26

  • Cross Harbour Bus route H1 (to Tsim Sha Tsui only)

Car parking is not available inside Tai Kwun. If you are driving, you can use the hourly car parks nearby, including:

  • Universal Trade Centre Car Park (3 Arbuthnot Road)

  • The Centrium Car Park (2 Arbuthnot Road)

Take good care of your belongings. Enjoy yourself in a way that does not disturb others. No pets are allowed (except guide dogs).

Due to the nature of certain activities, restrictions may apply at certain venues. Follow instructions on posted signs and directions of our staff.

Arrangement Under Inclement Weather Conditions

Black Rainstorm Warning Signal

If Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued before 10am, the site will remain closed and re-open two hours after the signal is lowered.

If Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued after 10am, the site will remain open with limited operations.

Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above

If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is lowered before 6pm of the day in question, Tai Kwun will reopen after two hours with limited operations.

If Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above is lowered after 3pm of the day in question, all exhibitions will remain closed.

Some public programmes may be postponed or cancelled after the lowering of Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above. Visitors may refer to their individual programme page on Tai Kwun website.


Site-wide Service

Tai Kwun has a dedicated Visitor Experience team who is always happy to help and answer questions about Tai Kwun. Visitors can come to our Visitor Centre - Visitor Services located at the Barrack Block (Block 03) to obtain the latest information on Tai Kwun’s programmes and the Tai Kwun Pass.

Additionally, Tai Kwun provides the following services throughout the site:

Accessibility

Free wheelchairs can be borrowed at the Visitor Centre - Visitor Services at the Barrack Block (Block 03) and the Tai Kwun Contemporary Reception at JC Contemporary. There are lifts across the compound which facilitate access to different areas. Furthermore, we offer inductive loops for visitors with hearing loss. During your visit, please ask our staff should you have any questions or need assistance.

FAQ

1. If I come with a visitor in a wheelchair, which entrance should I use?
There is a wheelchair-friendly entrance: the Bauhinia House Gate.

2. If I am in wheelchair, can I access all areas of the site?
Tai Kwun has devoted great efforts to conserve the heritage of the site, especially in protecting and enhancing the historical spaces and material character of the Central Police Station compound. Most buildings, therefore, have maintained their previous appearances. Certain buildings may not be as friendly as some others, but alternatives will be provided. Should you need any assistance, please do not hesitate to email us.

3. Can I rent a wheelchair or stroller on site?
Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the Visitor Centre at the Barrack Block (Block 03) and the Gallery Reception at JC Contemporary. We currently do not provide a stroller rental service.

4. Are guide dogs allowed on site?
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.
