Behind Bars is a place for people. Found within a series of former interlinked jail cells within E-Hall, it is both literally and figuratively a space to connect with others. The location, is an ironic and appropriate one. It speaks to both Yenn Wong (JIA Group) and entertainment creative Angus Wong’s want for the venue’s identity not to be bound by physical address, but with time, for it to flow out from the spatially defined. Contributing to, and championing Hong Kong’s many communities, fostering collaboration and conversations - not bound by age or interest.

The beverage program arrives under the guidance of JIA Group’s awarded Bar Manager, James Barker, who over a long form, traditional list has chosen a succinct collection. Taking preeminent position, a line of classic cocktails that forms a series. Bottled in glass, they come adorned with a rotation of works care of upcoming illustrators.

What’s on at Behind Bars is governed by ‘The Roster’ - a calendar that speaks to design, drink, audio, mindfulness and more – evolving with time, season and reason. Fluid and overlapping where relevant.

Knowing all bars require a great champagne to be enjoyed either in celebration (or for no reason), Perrier-Jouët serves as Behind Bars' official champagne.

Behind Bars is not just a location for the evening, but one for the afternoon. Open from 4pm and with an artisan coffee program powered by specialty roasters Redback it serves as the ideal location in which to pick up a take away, or sit and savour - either in the cells, or outside in the prison yard courtyard, when the weather suits.
